Christmas 2008

Arlene, Carl and Clarence would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. Carl,Clarence and Arlene spent the day at home. Clarence was very proud of "his" Christmas tree and was not too happy when Carl tried taking off some of the ornaments. Clarence asked Arlene several times throughout the day to open the front door to let Santa Claus in but Arlene was able to explain to Clarence that he did not have to worry that she would let Santa in when he arrived. Carl, Clarence and Arlene enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner with a family friend. Amazingly just before the boys went to bed Santa managed to sneak in and leave the boys some Christmas presents. Clarence was so excited to see that Santa knew how much he loved Power Rangers, The Wiggles and books, he could not stop smiling. Carl loved all the Disney Cars gifts he got and the books but he was very excited about his giant Wiggles activity book. Personally I think the most endearing gift was watching the look on Arlene's face as she watched her two boys enjoy the spirit of Christmas, as they opened all their gifts, as they shared with one another, as they played with one another and as they helped each other make it another special Christmas.

Thanksgiving

Although Thanksgiving is a traditional American holiday, Arlene, Carl and Clarence have celebrated it each year since they arrived in the United States. The Aguirre's have much to be thankful for and at this time they would like to acknowledge all those who have helped them and those who continue to help them achieve their goals and progress in all aspects of their daily lives.

Halloween

The boys enjoyed another year of Halloween costumes and treats. Carl dressed as Superman and flew by all his classmates during their Halloween parade. He was not so interested in the candy this year but he was happy to share his candy with his mommy and brother.
Clarence dressed as his favorite action hero, a Red Power Ranger. He wore his costume with great pride and showed his "special powers" of strength and persuasion. Clarence enjoyed his Halloween candy and even though he was less excited about sharing his candy with his mommy and brother, he shared almost every piece.

Settling into the new school year

Carl and Clarence have been back to school for almost a month already. Clarence has adjusted well to his new school. He's already made new friends and has won over the hearts of the school staff. Clarence really enjoys doing math work and solving problems, who knows perhaps he could one day help balance the U.S. budget.
Carl is back in familiar surroundings, he has reconnected with his friends, therapist and his favorite teacher. Carl has taken a great interest in classic children's literature, he loves to read Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham". Who knows, maybe Carl will one day enjoy writing silly children's stories that will teach children the most important things in life; like not eating "Green eggs and ham".

Carl and Clarence Separated Again

The fun days of summer have come to an end, so now it's back to school for Carl and Clarence. Last year the twins attended the same public school in which they participated in a therapuetic educational program that focused on their individual needs functionally, cognitively and socially. Carl and Clarence both made tremendous gains throughout the school year. At the end of the school year it was decided that Clarence was ready to move up to the next level of theraputic educational programming which is in a different school setting than the one Carl is in. So on their first day back to school Carl and Clarence went their separate ways to conquer a new set of goals. Arlene is proud of all the progress both Carl and Clarence have made. She is happy that Clarence is starting a new school yet she again is experiencing some fears and anxities about having Carl and Clarence separated from one another.

Carl and Clarence go to an Amusement Park

Carl, Clarence and Arlene enjoyed the July 4th holiday weekend like many families in America due. They ate hotdogs and watermelon at a barbecue, watched a fireworks show, splashed each other in a swimming pool and even got to ride on several rides at a local amusement park. Carl and Clarence both enjoyed chauffering their mom around in antique cars. Carl loved any ride that spun around, Arlene unfortunately did not feel the same way but she enjoyed watching Carl laugh and smile. Clarence enjoyed rides that soared high in the air so he could look and wave at the people on the ground. It was a great weekend filled with laughter, fun and new experiences for the Aguirre family.

Clarence looses his first baby tooth!

It’s not always about the tooth fairy. Apparently there is no such thing as the tooth fairy in the Philippines so unfortunately a fun aspect of growing up in America was not so fun for Clarence. Clarence was not happy to loose his tooth. He initially got very self conscious and kept looking in the mirror and covering his face. Clarence is slowly getting used to his new look.

Carl and Clarence Celebrate their Sixth Birthday!

Carl and Clarence experience another first as they celebrate their sixth birthday’s in separate classrooms. Carl enjoyed sharing his love of Bob the Builder with his classmates and Clarence who got special permission to go to his brother’s classroom for the celebration by blowing out candles on a Bob the Builder cake and goody bags with the same theme. After Carl’s celebration, Arlene and Carl went to Clarence’s classroom where he shared his love of Power Rangers with his classmates. Clarence blew out candles on a Power Rangers cake and gave out goody bags with the same theme. This was the first year that the boys really expressed their different interests and requested different party themes. Arlene enjoyed being able to nurture Carl and Clarence’s individual personalities, likes and dislikes. She also enjoyed seeing how public school has enhanced both Carl and Clarence’s social interaction abilities; they both have developed friendships with other peers.
